Sony moves The Dark Tower, Barbie, Bad Boys 3

Sony Pictures has shuffled the release dates of three of its 2017 features.

“The Dark Tower” has been moved back a month from an original release date of January 13, 2017 to February 17, 2017. Based on the Stephen King novel and starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, the movie will now open against Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “he Great Wall” and 20th Century Fox’s “Maze Runner: The Death Cure”.

As a result, “Bad Boys 3” has been shifted out of the Feb 17 date and delayed until June 2, 2017. That movie will open against Warner Bros.’ Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler starer “The House”.

In turn, “Bad Boys 3” has pushed Sony’s “Barbie” movie out of that date and up to May 12, 2017. While it’s the only film slated for that date, it’s sandwiched between Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and Paramount’s “Baywatch” movie.
