Spider-Man spinoff Venom in the works

Sony has hired Dante Harper to write a script for a “Spider-Man” spinoff about the Marvel Comics villain Venom.

Interestingly, THR reports that “Venom” is unrelated to the upcoming “Spider-Man” movie starring Tom Holland and is planned as the start of a new franchise.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing.

Venom was introduced to the Marvel Comics as a villain in 1988. He is an alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive, in turn giving the human host incredible powers. Over time, the villain morphed into an anti-hero.

Venom appeared in “Spider-Man 3” and was played by Topher Grace.
