Spotnitz begging Fox to do third X-Files movie ASAP!

“X-Files” scribe and producer Frank Spotnitz has been trumpeting a third “X-Files” movie since, well, the last one was released. The decision to do another doesn’t rest with him – nor stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson – as much as it does the crowd putting up the money though, Fox.

In an interview with Collider, Spotnitz, out promoting his new series “Hunted”, says the studio would want to hurry up and greenlight it if they do want “X-Files” to ever grace the screen (in it’s current incarnation) again.

I’ve been saying for years now that I feel it’s a cultural crime that they have not finished the series. The second movie did not perform the way anybody wanted it to at the box office. I’m proud of that movie, but it makes sense to me that it didn’t. It was released at the height of summer, and it was a story-of-the-week. That’s not what the movie-going audience wanted. The movie-going audience wanted the aliens. That’s what they know The X-Files for. And that story is not done, and it should be finished. I don’t think it’s too late, but I think it’s gonna be, pretty soon. I’m still agitating with everyone I can grab to say, “Let’s make this movie while we still can!”

Spotnitz said he’d also be interested in bringing “Millennium”, the “X-Files” spin-off series, to the big screen but admits it’d be a “harder sell”.

I don’t doubt that we will see the “X-Files” again, in some shape or form, I just dread what Fox might do (*cough* reboot fixing on the now grown-son of Mulder and Scully, with a ‘special guest appearance by Annabeth Gish’ *cough*) if they don’t do a third film.
