Star Wars : Force Awakens hits $600M, Anakin cameo cut, DiCaprio Skywalker?

The Force awoke at the box office again this week as Disney’s “Star Wars” relaunch chalked up another record. According to box office boffins, the total gross for Episode VII is now at $600M+ (as of Tuesday) after adding another $29.3 M to it’s cume. The JJ Abrams directed flick dropped only 6% from Monday.

The film is now on track to thrash “Avatar” as the highest grossing film of all time domestically. Punters suggest it’ll hit the $700m mark by the weekend.

Meanwhile, tidbits and trivia about the film continue to pour in from the Interwebs with the latest nugget pertaining to a cut cameo by Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker.

In “The Art of Star Wars : The Force Awakens” book, concept artist Iain McCraig revealed that the prequel’s lead could have reprised the role for the new film.

“If we see Anakin Skywalker, because he does flow back and forth between Darth Vader and Anakin, let’s see him as a character with a dark and light side,” McCraig explains. “The reason Luke is this whole new entity is because he was the first to acknowledge his own dark side—that it was not separate from him.”

Speaking of Darth Vader’s alter ego, Leonardo DiCaprio recently revealed that he considered taking on the role of the young Jedi in the prequels.

“I did have a meeting with George Lucas about that, yes,” the 41-year-old star of “The Revenant” tells ShortList. “[I] just didn’t feel ready to take that dive. At that point.” The role eventually went to Hayden Christensen.
