Stratton swaps Superman for Howard Stark

“Need for Speed” star Dominic Cooper will play the lead role in “Stratton”, the action-thriller that Henry Cavill dropped out of just over a month ago, says Variety.

The “Man of Steel” actor walked from the project five days before filming was to begin, leaving director Simon West and the film’s producers scrambling to find a new lead.

Cooper, who has appeared in everything from “Mamma Mia!” to “Captain America : The First Avenger” and “Dracula Untold”, is, according to the filmmakers, the perfect surrogate for the role of a Special Boat Service operative who’s tracking down an international terrorist cell through Central Asia, mainland Europe and London.

“Dominic Cooper’s talent, versatility and his originality as an actor provide the perfect fit for what will be an entirely fresh and memorable action hero,” West said.

The film, set to begin filming in Italy in a week’s time, will also star Gemma Chan, Austin Stowell (“Whiplash”), Tyler Hoechlin, Tom Felton, Thomas Kretschmann, Derek Jacobi, Connie Nielsen and Jake Fairbrother.
