The Bone Collector to be rebooted as a series at NBC

Book or movie, it’s the age-old question. The 1997 film “The Bone Collector” starring Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie was good, but the book is by my favourite author Jeffrey Deaver so I hold a slight bias to the book in this case. Regardless of my opinion, VJ Boyd and Mark Bianculli are taking on writing duties to turn the novel-cum-film into a TV series for NBC. And we are happy with this.

For those unfamiliar, “The Bone Collector” was the debut novel for Deaver’s characters of Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs, who team up to solve crimes – with 10 subsequent novels in the series of Lincoln Rhyme thrillers. “The Skin Collector” is Deaver’s latest, released in 2014. The film saw Washington in the role of Rhyme, and Jolie as Sachs.

The NBC series “The Bone Collector” is said to be based on the film and the book, and follows Lincoln Rhyme , a retired genius forensic criminologist left paralyzed after an accident on the job. When a harrowing case brings him back to the force, Rhyme partners up with an ambitious young detective, Amelia Sachs, to take down some of the most dangerous criminals in the U.S.

The drama series will be a co-production between Universal Television and Sony Pictures Television. Keshet Studios’ Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan will exec produce.
