The Crow loses Jack, gains Forest

The long-gestating remake of “The Crow” – has to have been in the works for about a decade now, no? – has hit another Witches Hat before it could reach production.

The film has seen more than a few actors and filmmakers come and go from it, and toda (via Variety), news of another drop-out.

“Boardwalk Empire” star Jack Huston came aboard the Relativity produced project a while back, but he’s now out due to a scheduling conflict. Huston, whose other credits include “The Longest Ride” and “American Hustle”, is one of several actors to have attached themselves to the role of Eric Draven before dropping out. Others that have supposedly flirted with “The Crow” at some stage include Mark Wahlberg, Alexander Skarsgaard, Tom Hiddleston, and recently, Luke Evans.

Director Corin Hardy said in a statement, “Jack Huston is unfortunately unavailable to continue with us on The Crow.

[It] is an amazing project, and I am grateful that we have the time and patience to get it right. We look forward to unveiling our new lead and starting to film over the next several weeks.”

The studio doesn’t seem to be wasting too much time scouring for a replacement, apparently Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men : First Class”, “Mad Max Fury Road”) and Jack O’Connell (“Unbroken”) have landed on the radar as a couple of potentials who could work.

There is better news for the film though, with some of the supporting roles now locked up. The legendary Forest Whitaker (last in “Taken 3”) will play the cop character that featured in the original (the one Ernie Hudson played) and Andrea Riseborough will play bad guy Top Dollar.
