Tim Allen to star in Martial-Arts Movie!

The Santa Clause joins Sony’s “Redbelt”

This is fabulous. A really smart move by Tim Allen.

The funny man is breaking free – not only from Disney, but – from the family comedies he’s made his name on by starring in a mixed-martial arts movie from director Rob Cohen (“The Fast and the Furious”).

I’ve always believed Allen’s capable of more, just didn’t know whether he personally ached to step outside his comfort zone. This is an indication that he might be itching to get away from the fluff.

“Redbelt” stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a Jiu-jitsu master whose purity is compromised when he is drawn into the movie business and manipulated into brawling in ultimate fighting matches. Allen, last seen in the terrible smash hit “Wild Hogs”, plays a troubled action star with marital problems who meets the master when he is getting pummeled in a street fight.

Emily Mortimer, Alice Braga, Joe Mantegna, Rodrigo Santoro, Ricky Jay, David Paymer, Rebecca Pidgeon and Jose Pablo Cantillo will star, along with martial artists and fighters Randy Couture, John Machado, Danny Inosanto, Enson Inoue and Ray Mancini, says Variety.

Not that Allen’s finished with the house-of-mouse bullshit just yet… he’s currently negotiating his deal on the “Wild Hogs” sequel (a bout of hep-B sounds more appealing hey?).
