Top Gun 2 scores Marks!

Like Brett Ratner at a networking event full of film critics, one screenwriter’s feeling the need for speed today.

Justin Marks (“Street-Fighter : The Legend of Chun-Li”) is set to draft the screenplay for “Top Gun 2”.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marks will draft the script for Paramount Pictures and Skydance Prods, taking over from “The Town” scribe Peter Craig who penned the previous draft.

Tom Cruise is expected to reprise his role for the sequel to Tony Scott’s 1986 hit as US Naval Aviator Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

Tony Scott, director of the 1986 original, was set to helm the sequel prior to his tragic passing.

Marks recently wrote the screenplay for Jon Favreau’s upcoming “The Jungle Book”.
