Diederik Van Rooijen will direct an update of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” for Platinum Dunes, Mandalay Pictures and Universal Pictures, says Variety.
Based on a short story by Daphne de Maurier, the original starred Tippi Hedren and told of a San Francisco woman who moves to a small town in northern California where she finds herself the target of fierce birds. A direct-to-video sequel followed.
Considering Michael Bay is a producer on it, expect those birds to explode rather spectacularly as each meet their demise at the hands of the hero.
A remake of “The Birds” has been on the cards for years; at one stage, Naomi Watts was expected to headline.
