Vote for Kevin Costner

Dances with Ballots

Great to see Kevin Costner’s come to the realization that it’s the performances, not the pennies, that really matters in this game.

The Oscar Winning Actor – so good in “Upside of Anger” a year or two back; check it out if you didn’t get to it – has signed on to star in an Indy called “Swing Vote”, that the producers hope to sell at Cannes.

Directed by Joshua Michael Stern, “Vote” revolves around a single father thrust into the national spotlight when the presidential election comes down to his vote. The pic begins lensing in July, says Variety.

“Swing Vote” will be the first project to come from Costner and producing partner Jim Wilson’s new shingle, Treehouse Films. An offshoot of their Tig Prods., Treehouse will produce film, television and online content produced fully by Costner. Tig will still exist for development of more studio-based projects.

“Treehouse will give me (the) opportunity to shepherd projects from the ground up, with the goal of aligning partners of a like mind,” Costner said. ” ‘Swing Vote’ fits right into that mold,” he added.

“Kevin wants to make sure he can control projects that are dear to him and may not fit within the traditional studio system,” said Wilson. “And he wants to make sure there is a model for that which makes sense.”

Stern’s only previous directing project was 2005 Toronto fest entry “Neverwas.” He’s directing a script he wrote with Jason Richman
