Walk the Line, Luthor!

Joaquin Phoenix usually pulls a supermodel and sticks his gingers down his throat, to up the night before’s caviar croissant, whenever he’s approached to do a comic book movie – but maybe he’s changed his mind? or maybe he’s hasn’t and we’re all simply writing a story that’s punchline again ends in ‘Phoenix ultimately passed’?

The actor cum rapper cum actor has apparently been offered ‘something’ in Warner’s “Batman vs. Superman” movie (that’s the “Man of Steel” sequel that hasn’t half earned the right to bring another character into proceedings yet, let alone 20 ‘Super Friends’!), according to Variety. Word has it that the role is none other than Gene Hackman, er, Lex Luthor.

Most predict, since he gave the birdie to “The Dark Knight”, among others, that Phoenix’s decision won’t come down to whether or not he has to wear bald cap in the movie (good question though!) but whether he’s somehow convinced it’s time do the superhero movie he’s long resisted doing.

Interestingly enough, Warners were said to be originally chasing an African American actor for the role of Luthor – with Denzel Washington top of the list – and I don’t know about you, but Phoenix embodies everything that modern-day African American man stands for… so I’m all for it.

“Batman vs. Superman” hits theatres 2015 – with or without Leaf, er, Joaquin.
