Weaver still game for Alien 5

Concept sketches from Neill Blomkamp's upcoming "Aliens" sequel

While Fox were seemingly gung-ho for Neil Blomkamp’s “Alien 5” pitch (remember? it would would erase the events of “Alien 3” and “Alien Resurrection” and serve as a direct sequel to “Aliens” with both Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn reprising their roles from that film), the project was put on indefinite pause when Ridley Scott opted to do his “Alien”-prequel project, “Alien : Covenant” (aka “Prometheus 2”) first. Understandably, neither the studio or Scott wanted to have two very different “Alien” movies out there at the same time.

With “Alien : Covenant” coming out next Summer, will Fox put “Alien 5” in production shortly thereafter?

Star Sigourney Weaver sure hopes so.

In an interview with Variety, the actress says “I hope that Neill Blomkamp and I will eventually get back to it. He’s written such a wonderful script. I look forward to finishing Ripley’s story.“

Could be an issue with scheduling though, considering Weaver’s attached to film the next twenty-five “Avatar” sequels over the coming years.
