Steven Spielberg has come aboard “American Sniper”, the Bradley Cooper starring/producing vehicle which the “Silver Linings Playbook” actor has been developing for a while.
The Warner Bros project, based on the autobiography of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, will feature Cooper as a Texan who came to record the highest number of sniper kills for an American. Kyle was killed earlier this year at a shooting range by a fellow vet.
Spielberg was all set to go on the blockbuster science-fiction flick “Robopocalypse”, but put it on hold fearing it wasn’t quite ready to go before the cameras, and went in search of a replacement gig for the meantime – leading to Cooper’s Kyle biopic.
Meanwhile, TV guru John Wells (“E.R”) is in talks to direct Bradley Cooper on another of Cooper’s many projects-in-development “Chef”.
Wells, whose latest film “August : Osage County” drew a terrific ensemble cast, will direct Cooper as ” Paris chef Adam Jones, who blows his status as an up and coming chef when controlled substances lead to out of control behavior. Jones straightens out and returns to Paris sober, and becomes devoted to building a restaurant that can attain three Michelin stars, the mark of cuisine supremacy”, according to Deadline.
Cooper apparently insisted on Wells for the job after seeing footage from Wells’ ”August: Osage County”, the play adaptation which has a cast that includes Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
