Add some (pop) culture to your family

News this week is that the name “Kylo” is the fastest growing baby name in America. Following the huge success of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, however one has to remind parents that Kylo Ren is the villian in this flick. It doesn’t seem to matter to new parents though, as apparently villian names make for a more popular name than the ones of the heroes. So unsurprisingly, no one wants to name their kid “Jar Jar”.

Interestingly, the name “Caitlyn” has seen a huge drop in popularity following the announcement of Caitlyn Jenner, Bruce Jenner’s new female identity. The name “Donald” has dropped off, and no guesses why there, but the top names tend to reflect the usual Emmas, Sophies, Johns and Alexanders.

But those names are boring. In the spirit of Kylo rising in popularity, I’ve compiled a list of relevant pop-culture-inspired names that you can use for your newborn. You’re welcome.

Boys:

  1. Jabba (for the chubby baby)
  2. Yoda
  3. Dredd
  4. Flash
  5. Groot

Girls:

  1. Elektra
  2. Justice (okay so this is a male superhero, but it so suits a girl better)
  3. Mystique
  4. Supergirl (alternatively, add -girl or -woman to your name of choice, and boom! you’ve got a super kid!)
  5. Trajectory (for the sister of Flash)

As you can probably tell, I’m a childless woman (and probably for good reason), but I’m still bitter that the one name I did like is now associated with an ex-boyfriend, and so I need some new inspiration. Little R2 will be well loved I’m sure.
