Who killed Andy Sipowicz? N.Y.P.D Blue returns!

A sequel series to ’90s hit “NYPD Blue” is in the works at ABC.

The cop drama, which catapulted the careers of David Caruso and Dennis Franz to great heights, was co-created by the late Steven Bochco and ran from 1993 to 2005.

The new series will focus on the son of Detective Andy Sipowicz — played by original star Dennis Franz, who won’t be appearing — as he tries to earn his detective shield and work in the 15th squad while investigating his father’s murder.

The pilot is set to be executive produced and written by Matt Olmstead and Nick Wootton, both of whom served as producers on the original series.

In addition, Jesse Bochco, who also worked on the original and is the son of the abovesaid Bochco, is on board to direct. Bochco’s widow, Dayna Bochco, will serve as a producer.

Franz tells Deadline that he was approached to reprise his role in the new series but passed.

“I did receive a call, and I’m flattered bot nor interested. NYPD Blue was a high point in my life and career, and I think of it so fondly. I wish them all well and much success.”

Austin Majors played Theo, Sipowicz’s young son, from seasons 6-12 on “NYPD Blue”.
