Why Dark Knight Rises is shooting in Pittsburgh

“And the winner is……”

It was announced a few hours back that Warner’s “Dark Knight Rises” will set up camp in Pittsburgh.

Many cities had been mooted for this latest Bat flick’s locale but director Christopher Nolan couldn’t find everything he wanted – like, maybe, Robin’s nest? – in New Orleans or Chicago, or what have you.

“Pittsburgh is a beautiful city,” Nolan said. “We have been able to find everything we were looking for here, and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman.”

Naturally, the people of Pittsburgh are excited about not only having superstars like Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway gobbling down toasters in their diners but the money that such a production will flow back into the town.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming the Batman film to Pittsburgh, and eager for the economic impact that our city will experience” Mayor Luke Ravenstahl tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “This is another example of the growing film industry in our community, and we will be rolling out the red carpet for them.”

I bet – on their dime.

“The Dark Knight Rises”, which will see Batman go head-to-head with Bane (Tom Hardy) and Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), will shoot for six weeks in Pittsburgh, largely downtown.
