Will Smith, Jay Z developing real-life HBO miniseries

Will Smith, Jay-Z and Aaron Kaplan are producing a miniseries for HBO about an African American teenager who was murdered for reportedly asking a white woman on a date.

In 1995, after allegedly flirting with a 21-year-old white woman, 14-year-old Emmett Till was brutally murdered by the woman’s husband and his half-brother. They gouged one of his eyes out, shot him in the head and threw his body in Mississippi’s Tallahatchie River.

Jay Brown and James Lassiter will exec produce with Smith, Jay-Z and Kaplan. No writer is attached yet.
