Warner Bros has nabbed the rights to the “Willy Wonka” IP from the Roald Dahl Estate and is planning a new film based on the iconic character.
According to Variety, producer David Heyman is developing the film with the studio, which won’t be an origin tale but a standalone movie focused on Wonka and his early adventures.
Heyman will produce with Michael Siegel, the manager of the Dahl Estate. Kevin McCormick will exec produce.
Simon Rich is writing the script. We don’t yet know which “Wonka” characters will be involved in the project.
