The finale of the new six-part “X-Files” event series (kicking off in a week) goes all Stallone. Yep, it ends on a Cliffhanger. Smart, smart..

While Fox haven’t commissioned any more eps from creator Chris Carter, the franchise patriarch is hopeful that Mulder & Scully will be back – -and soon.

“If we do well in the ratings, I can’t imagine we wouldn’t be asked to do more,” Carter says.

Whether that’s on TV or film, he doesn’t know, but if it is on the big screen, Carter knows he can’t go the way of “X-Files : I Want to Believe” again.

“If there is a third movie it’s got to be a gigantic movie”, the brainchild of the sci-fi hit tells EW. “It would have to be a big-budget movie; that’s what X-Files fans want. We tried to do a very small movie about faith the second time out. And it was released in the middle of summer tentpole movies. It was a misstep in that way. I think [a third movie] has to be more like the first movie.”
