24 alum to star in Amblin’s new ‘Dracula’

The latest film adaptation of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” has inched forward, with Amblin Pictures signing “24 : Legacy” and “Straight Outta Compton” actor Corey Hawkins to headline the picture.

“The Last Voyage of the Detmer” is based on a single chapter in Stoker’s original novel that tells the story of the Russian schooner, Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo – twenty four unmarked wooden crates – from Carpathia to London. The film will detail the strange events that befell the doomed crew as they attempt to survive the ocean voyage, stalked each night by a terrifying presence onboard the ship. When it finally arrived near Whitby Harbor, it was a derelict. There was no trace of the crew. The initial script was written by Bragi Schut.

“Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark” helmer Andre Øvredal will direct the film, based on a script by Zak Olkewicz (“Bullet Train”). “Shutter Island” and “Zodiac” troupe Mike Medavoy, Brad Fischer and Arnold Messer produce.
