24 may return; Jack Bauer prequel no longer in the mix

Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn believes there’s “potential” for more

In a recent interview with podcaster Michael Rosenbaum, former “24” star Kiefer Sutherland reiterated that Jack Bauer will always be with him and he’d never say never to reprising the role. As Sutherland said, it all depends on the idea.

Seems they might be closer to one.

Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn tells Deadline that there is “potential” that “24” might return.

“There’s still a possibility, there’s still some discussions with the producers on a take that we have yet to hear,” he said. “There [are] some active creative discussions that are happening.”

The Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran created series, which launched in 2001, spawned eight seasons, a two-hour movie, a 12-episode limited series and a 2017 reboot starring Corey Hawkins.

Recent attempts to revive “24” reportedly include a prequel which would’ve told of a young Bauer. That project, and other incarnations, are no longer in the mix.

“We always welcome celebrating our iconic shows and revisiting those with surprising takes and new approaches so, especially in this crowded market, we’re always open to reinventing our best IP with some of our favorite partners,” he added.
