Luke Perry’s former “Beverly Hills 90210” co-stars paid tribute to their late co-star, who passed yesterday after suffering a stroke, with Shannen Doherty posting an intimate picture of her and former onscreen love interest on Instagram.
Wrote Doherty, “yesterday morning I got a phone call that devastated me. I’m struggling with this loss and am having a hard time with my thoughts. But, my heart goes out to his family and friends who were blessed by his light in their (and mine) lives. Processing this is impossible right now.”
Jennie Garth, who played Kelly Taylor, and Tori Spelling, who played Donna Martin, also expressed their condolences.
“My heart is broken. He meant so much to so many. Such a very special person. I share my deep sadness with his family and all who loved him. Such a terrible loss.”, Garth told People.
Spelling told the same outlet : “‘I’m in utter shock and heartbroken. I’m saddened for his kids whom he adored beyond words. He was so proud of Jack and Sophie.”
Carol Potter, who played family matriarch Cindy Potter on the Fox series, tells People that she was “immediately struck by this James Dean-esque quality but also he just seemed to have his feet on the ground. You had this combination of this unreachable sexy guy with this sense of an inner foundation at the same time.”
Potter says Perry’s death feels “unreal.”
“It’s unimaginable,” she admits. “When you work together, there is a family-life intimacy that comes up and that never goes away. I always hoped our paths would cross again and I could get to know the incredible man that he seems to have become.”
