Oscar® Nominee Dev Patel (”Lion”, ”Slumdog Millionaire”) will direct and star in the action revenge film “Monkey Man”. Endeavor Content is handling worldwide sales and will present the project to buyers at AFM. Developed with the assistance of S’ya Concept, the script is written by Patel, Paul Angunawela and John Collee (upcoming ”Hotel Mumbai”, ”Happy Feet”, ”Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World”).

Basil Iwanyk (”John Wick”, ”Sicario”) of Thunder Road is producing along with Xeitgeist’s Joe Thomas (”The Man Who Knew Infinity”, upcoming ”Hotel Mumbai”), Samarth Sahni (associate producer of ”Hotel Mumbai”) and Patel. Steeped in mythology, but set in a vibrant modern India, “Monkey Man” follows the Kid (Patel) who emerges from prison to take on a world enmeshed in corporate greed and eroding spiritual values.

Avi Lerner’s Millennium Media seems to be inching forward on their long-held plans to bring “Red Sonja” back to the big screen. Screen Daily reports that the shingle will launch talks on the comic book property at AFM this week. Last month reports claimed Bryan Singer was in talks to direct with Ashley Edward Miller a lock to write the film. The plan is to shoot the film in Bulgaria once the producers have secured a director and found their leading lady. (Screen Daily)

Tobin Bell and Joaquin Cosio starring “Belzebuth” will be repped at AFM by Raven Banner. The Spanish and English-language film takes place on both sides of the US-Mexico border and follows special agent Emanuel Ritter (Cosio) as he leads an investigation into mysterious deaths involving young children at the border. Jon Bernthal, Evan Peters, Charlie Plummer and Josh Gad will star in “Snow Ponies”, a darkly comic action-film that will be repped at AFM by Sierra/Affinity. The film will chart the journey of a crew of seven hardened men who travel across a vicious landscape to deliver a mysterious package. (Deadline)

Ahead of AFM, the feature adaptation of Howard Gould’s “Waldo” has added Mel Gibson to its cast. The Tim Kirkby directed film also stars Charlie Hunnam and Eiza Gonzalez and will be repped at the market by IMR International. Waldo introduces a new hero in disgraced former LAPD detective Charlie Waldo (Hunnam), currently living the life of a minimalist in the woods. His quiet life comes to a startling halt when he is roped back into working as a private eye to investigate the murder of an eccentric TV star’s wife. Filming is set to commence in the first quarter of 2019.
