Akira delayed amid development concerns

The long-gestating “Akira” has hit yet another road-block, with Warner Bros. pulling the film off the schedule indefinitely citing “development concerns”.

The film, an adaptation of the Japanese manga of the same name, was pencilled in for May 21, 2021 and had reportedly begun looking for talent worldwide, but the release date was bumping up against “Thor 4“, so has been pushed back for now.

“Akira” also had script development problems, resulting in its delay. News via The Hollywood Reporter is that “Thor 4” director Taika Waititi is being eyed to take the reigns on “Akira” once “Thor” has wrapped up.
