All the latest news in TV: Will & Grace, Star Trek: Discovery, The Good Cop, The Oath

The revival of the ever-popular “Will and Grace” has a return date, and you’ll be seeing it on your screens this fall. NBC have announced that it will begin September 28th at 9pm, making it prime-time viewing as part of NBC’s Thursday must-see TV.

The long running sitcom ‘finished’ in 2006 after 8 seasons, and will return for 2017-18 for 12 episodes. Stars of the show include Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Sean Hayes, and Meghan Mullally, and no doubt fans are highly anticipating the return of the group to TV.

While on the topic of premiere dates, “Star Trek: Discovery” has also been announced as premiering on September 2nd at 8:30pm. Interestingly, the 15-episode series will be split into two chapters, across 2017-18. According to THR, the first 8 episodes will run from September to November 5, and then pick up again in January 2018 for the remaining 7 eps.

“Star Trek: Discovery” will star Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp, Michelle Yeoh, James Frain and Rainn Wilson. The show will follow the journey of the Starfleet on missions involving new worlds and aliens. And poetically, one of the Starfleet officers learns that to understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. Good advice for life, too.

Sean Bean has been cast in “The Oath”, a 10-episode drama series produced by 50-Cent. The show will debut in 2018, and Bean has been cast as character Tom Hammond, who is a hard-charging cop and ruthless leader (via THR).

“The Oath” will be a gritty and action-packed drama that explores the world of gangs as secret socieites, and the lengths members will go to protect themselves from enemies. Bean’s character finds himself locked up after doing a deal with an undercover FBI agent, and focuses on his desire to make it back up ranks after his release. The series will debut in 2018.

Tony Danza will back on the TV, to star in and produce Netflix’s “The Good Cop”. The 10-episode dramedy stars Danza as Tony Sr., a former NYPD officer who never liked rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr., who is a NYPD detective and, on the opposite end of the spectrum, always follows the rules. The two become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his son blunt advice on everything from his job to the ladies.

The show hails from “Monk” creator Andy Breckman, who will serve as showrunner and executive producer with Randy Zisk, who will also direct. VP of the original content for Netflix, Cindy Holland, had this to say about Danza’s casting: “We’re excited to bring viewers the return of Tony Danza, one of television’s most beloved icons. The Good Cop’ is a funny, charming procedural series that we think our members will love.” Thanks Deadline.

Fun fact, I used to think Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” was about Tony Danza. “Hold me closer, Tony Danza….”
