Amy Winehouse’s family condemn documentary as “unbalanced” & “misleading”

According to the family of late singer Amy Winehouse, a new documentary about the Grammy-winning singer’s life is “unbalanced” and “misleading”.

The film, which is titled “Amy” and will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month, was initially backed by the Winehouse family.

They’ve now issued a statement to People expressing their desire to “disassociate themselves from the forthcoming film”.

“It is both misleading and contains some basic untruths,” reads the statement.

“The narrative is formed by the testimony of a narrow sample of Amy’s associates, many of whom had nothing to do with her in the last years of her life. Counter views expressed to the filmmakers did not make the final cut.”

The family believe the film misrepresents Winehouse’s condition and the role her family played in her battle, particularly that of her father, Mitch.

“I felt sick when I watched it for the first time,” Mitch told The Sun. “Amy would be furious. This is not what she would have wanted.”

A spokesperson for the film said the crew “approached the project with total objectivity”.

“We conducted in the region of 100 interviews with people that knew Amy. The story that the film tells is a reflection of our findings from these interviews.”

Amy Winehouse died from alcohol poisoning in July 2011. She was 27.
