Aquaman actor reunites with Warner for Matrix 4

“Aquaman” and “Candyman” star Yahya Abdul Mateen II has landed a lead role in Warner & Roadshow’s “Matrix” reboot.

Said to be a continuation of the Wachowski’s groundbreaking trilogy, the fourth installment will again star Keanu Reeves as Neo – though rumors suggest there might also be some sort of flashback component, with Abdul-Mateen playing a young Morpheus, the character played by Laurence Fishburne in the original trio of films (Interestingly enough, Michael B.Jordan was originally rumored to be playing a younger version of Fishburne’s character in a “Matrix” reboot.)

Justin Kroll of Variety, however, says that while the young Morpheus rumor has been floated by some solid sources, they did add “even if he isn’t play a version of Morphius, there is still a strong possibility he would be playing someone connected to the character like a son or nephew.”

In addition to Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss is reprising her role from “The Matrix”, “The Matrix Reloaded” and ”The Matrix Revolutions” for the revival.

Lana Wachowski, who wrote the script with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell, is directing the film. Kick-off is penciled in for early 2020.

Abdul Mateen II, who played the ‘Black Mantra’ in James Wan’s “Aquaman”, as well as co-starred in Jordan Peele’s hit “Us” and had a starring role in an episode of “Black Mirror”, will also be seen in “The Trial of the Chicago 7” and a reboot of Clive Barker’s “Candyman”.
