Avengers: Endgame smashes box office records

In news that will surprise no-one, “Avengers: Endgame” is well and truly a box office success. It’s made records both in America and globally, with the film grossing well and truly over a a billion dollars.

The Marvel film has made $350 million in North America and $859 million overseas for a stunning global bow of $1.2 billion – and that’s just in its opening weekend. These are all box office records, which is a huge victory for Marvel and Disney.

The previous record holder for global opening was “Avengers: Infinity War”, which sat at $640.5 million – but that means that “Endgame” really smashed it out of the park. It made a total of $2.04 billion globally during its theatrical release. It will be interesting to see how much “Endgame” makes in total, to see if it beats the total “Infinity War” set.

In Australia, the film set the record for presales, with over $18 million in tickets sold before the film was even released.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo shot the two films back-to-back, leaving just a year between the two flicks – so fans were clearly keen to find out the climax of all the Avengers’ fates. The budget for “Endgame” was a huge $400m (est), so the return on investment is certainly a massive amount.

Money aside, the film also had to adhere to huge demands in the cinemas, with theatres showing “Endgame” every 30 minutes around the clock, and AMC in North America offering more than 60,000 screenings in its opening weekend.

Thanos might want to think twice about wiping out half the population with money like this to be made! Let’s see what you got, “Star Wars”…
