Back to the Future director doing live-action Pinocchio

“Back to the Future” and “Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis will direct a live-action take on the classic “Pinocchio” for Disney.

“Paddington” director Paul King had originally been tapped to direct but had to leave the project for unknown reasons at the beginning of the year. “Harry Potter” producer David Heyman, who had also been attached, is no longer involved.

Zemeckis, who has been working on “The Witches” for Warner, has been eyeing “Pinocchio” since the summer, says Variety.

While there’s no cast aboard yet, Zemeckis’s usual go-to guy Tom Hanks was offered the role of Geppetto, but ultimately passed.
