Back to the Future reunion; cinema re-release!

As if this weekend’s all-star “Back to the Future” 30th Anniversary Reunion in London didn’t already tip you off, expect some pretty big promotional action to coincide with the classic film’s birthday.

On the weekend, series stars Michael J.Fox (making a rare public appearance), Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Claudia Wells, Harry Waters Jr, James Tolkan, and more, took to the stage at the London Film & Comic Con Expo.

Fox gushed about doing the films, in particular working with co-star Lloyd who he said is a “genius”. The one-time Teen Wolf didn’t have as kind words to say about another one of his co-stars, the Delorean.

“The money it would take to get me back into the DeLorean again is a lot. I wish I had a video, a gag reel of how many times I was hit by that freakin’ door, the DeLorean door. Take after take, it would go, whack!”. Adds the actor, “It was the worst thing to drive. It had two gears and I slammed the door, and my hand would smash into the flux capacitor. My hand would be bleeding, my head would be bleeding… and I had to clean it off to get to the Family Ties set.”

Fox, who doesn’t regularly attend “Back to the Future” conventions – likely only due to his health, says fans of “Back to the Future” are just the greatest. “You’re the most genuine people I’ve met,” the 54-year-old told attendees. “If that’s what a nerd is, then that’s what Marty is too.”

Fox joked that his kids haven’t ever watched the movies – or so he’s been led to believe. “Ironically, for a time-travelling movie, there was a timelessness about it. Kids now like it. Though my kids haven’t watched it. Or, if they have, they haven’t told me.”

Fox attributed the success of “Back to the Future” to it’s creators.

It’s also been announced that the “Back to the Future” trilogy will return to cinemas this year! For those that have never seen the iconic science-fiction franchise on a big screen, that’ll be a treat and a half!

The films will be shown back-to-back in select cinemas – to be announced – on October 21.

The theatrical release is timed with the release of a new Blu-ray set. The ”Back to the Future 30th Anniversary Trilogy” will include all three movies plus a new bonus disc with more two hours of content. In addition, “Back to the Future: The Complete Animated Series” will be released for the first time ever on DVD featuring all 26 episodes from the animated show and ”Back to the Future: The Complete Adventures” will include all three movies, the complete animated series, a new bonus disc, a 64-page book and collectible light-up “Flux Capacitor” packaging. Featuring more than two hours of content, the bonus disc will include all-new original shorts, documentaries, two episodes from the animated series and more.

One of the most interesting new bonus features on the disc is an all-new Doc Brown short featuring Lloyd.
