Batman prequel series inches forward with Barton

It’s not any closer to hitting theaters – if there’ll be any left by the time this pandemic is down with us – and yet Warners already has a TV spin-off of “The Batman” in the works.  While it won’t feature Robert Pattinson’s caped crusader, and likely won’t share too many connections to the story being told in the upcoming movie, the HBO Max series does sound pretty cool :  it will be set during Batman’s first year on the job and be seen through the eyes of a crooked cop.

It was announced today that Joe Barton (“Humans”, “Troy : Fall of a City”) will be the showrunner on the superhero drama. He steps in for Terence Winter who broke free from the project for some reason or another.

Apparently insiders have been referring to the show as “Gotham Central”, suggesting most of the storylines will be set around the events of the local police force. Jeffrey Wright is believed to be reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon from the new Matt Reeves directed movie, which adds weight to the ‘Cop’ show rumor.
