Beverly Hills Cop : 30th Anniversary Celebration

Hard to believe it’s been thirty-years since Axel Foley escaped getting a pounding while wearing that god-awful ‘Thriller’ jacket down the main strip of Beverly Hills.

Martin Brest’s 1984 action-comedy still holds up a treat, largely due to the hyperkinetic and hilarious performance of Eddie Murphy as the foul-mouthed, shoot-first Detroit detective and an effective yarn that successfully blends action, comedy and thrills.

While Murphy is the standout, ”Beverly Hills Cop” wouldn’t have been as successful without his two unlikely sidekicks, John Ashton and Judge Reinhold – both terrific in the roles of Taggatt and Rosewood, respectively.

Blu-ray : It’s essentially just the previous Blu-ray release of ”Beverly Hills Cop” (which actually encompassed some great special features, like a retrospective documentary) with a tweak to the packaging, but if you don’t own a 1080p copy of the classic, then this is the one to get – looks terrific!
