Black Adam movie moving forward with new director in talks

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s standalone “Black Adam” film is still in the works, with Jaume Collet-Serra reportedly in talks to take the director’s chair. Via The Observer, Collet-Serra, who also recently directed “Jungle Cruise” with Johnson, is the frontrunner for the superhero film and in talks with Warner Bros. to helm the flick.

Johnson revealed on his Instagram that the DC Comics film would begin shooting in the new year, after discussing why he wasn’t a part of “Shazam!“.

Johnson also pretty much confirmed Collet-Serra will direct him in “Black Adam” on his Instagram – see below.

So what’s Black Adam’s story? As a predecessor to Billy Batson, the ancient Egyptian character was imbued with magical powers by the wizard Shazam, yet was soon corrupted by his abilities. Shazam was forced to exile Black Adam, but the powerful foe managed to return to the present day where he became the primary antagonist for DC’s Captain Marvel (later renamed Shazam).
