Caffeinated Clint
Last time David Boreanaz spoke of his ‘Angel’ character, he was wishing the ‘Buffy’ reboot well – encouraging fans to not only accept another actress in the ‘Slayer’ role but also Angel, knowing that part would also likely be recast.
Today, however, Boreanaz helped spike sales in mops and buckets by telling The Talk that something is in the works to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of “Angel” (which aired on The WB from October 5, 1999, to May 19, 2004, consisting of five seasons and 110 episodes).
“We’re coming up on 20 years. I mean, that’s amazing to have been blessed with a show like that and that’s where I really started my gig — this acting world,” said the “SEAL team” actor.
“I love that character,” Boreanaz added. “So, I will say there may be something coming up. I don’t want to give away much. I can say, it’s 20 years coming up this fall and we may have something in the works.”
Naturally, most took that to mean that Boreanaz would be playing the ageless (yep, he’ll always look 27) detective vampire again for a new limited series or telemovie – and that his former co-stars, which included Alexis Denisof, J.August Richards, Charisma Carpenter, Julie Benz, Vincent Kartheiser and Amy Acker would be joining him. It wouldn’t be a ‘reunion’ without everyone, of course. Wouldn’t that be frigtastic!?
What excited fans seem to be overlooking though are the traditional ways a reunion has taken place in the “Buffy” universe before – specifically, how the 20th Anniversary of the parent series was recognized. Remember? That EW reunion cover shoot (which Boreanaz and others participated in)? What about the ‘Buffy’ reunion panel at Comic-Con? Yep?
Hate to pop the balloon but I do feel Boreanaz, 49, is hinting at something smaller, though no less exciting, than a new “Angel” series. With ‘Buffy’ going the reboot route, without the original cast, there’s next to no reason why it’s spin-off would return to air, right? So, um, yep… expect both an EW issue and comic-con panel to be dedicated to Joss Whedon’s legendary f*cking vampire and his awesome troupe of spook combatants.
And yes, it broke me to write this too – – never have I wanted a ‘revival’ of a series so much in my life. Well, not since “Fang Face”.
