Anyone’s guess whether it’ll ever happen – and if it does, I strongly doubt he’ll be directing; expect Quentin to appoint a visually-taken bud like Robert Rodriguez or to take the reigns, while he retains a ‘story by’ and producing credit – but if it does push out into the galaxy of celluloid, Quentin Tarantino’s proposed “Star Trek” film might have to reserve a couple of Starfleet uniforms for Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.
Two of the stars of Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” are rumored to be boarding Enterprise-MF for the film, which the nine-time filmmaker has crafted the story for.
The actors have now responded to the rumors, noting that although it’s the first they’ve heard of it they’d be happy to join QT on deck.
“Everyone keeps saying that to me,” Robbie tells Joe.IE of the “Star Trek” flick, “I haven’t heard it from him! I just keep hearing it from everyone else.”
If it’s true that Tarantino indeed wants them for the film, both are in agreement that it would be an opportunity not to miss.
Pitt is succinct with his answer: “Hell yeah!”
Robbie is equally emphatic: “I would do anything, anything that Tarantino is doing.”
Pitt chimes in: “As long as we weren’t in scenes together,” to which Robbie jokingly replies “Oh yeah, as long as we didn’t have to do any scenes together!”
Pitt is, of course, referring to the fact that the duo don’t actually share any scenes in Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood”.
Tarantino spoke recently of his plans for the “Trek” film, only saying that it would feature the cast of the recent three movies.
“I don’t know how much I can say. The one thing I can say is it would deal with the Chris Pine timeline. Now, I still don’t quite understand, and JJ [Abrams] can’t explain it to me, and my editor has tried to explain it to me and I still don’t get it…about something happened in the first movie that now kind of wiped the slate clean. I don’t buy that. I don’t like it. I don’t appreciate it. I don’t — f*** that…I want the whole series to have happened, it just hasn’t happened yet. No, Benedict Cumberbatch or whatever his name is is not Khan, alright? Khan is Khan. And I told JJ, like, ‘I don’t understand this. I don’t like it.’ And then he was like, ‘Ignore it! Nobody likes it. I don’t understand it. Just do whatever you want. If you want it to happen the exact way it happens on the series it can.’
“The reason I was actually intrigued by the JJ Abrams version of it is because I thought Chris Pine did a fantastic job not just playing Capt. Kirk but playing William Shatner’s captain — he is William Shatner,” Tarantino continued. “He’s not just another guy, he’s William Shatner’s Capt. Kirk. And it’s literally, Zachary Quinto is literally Leonard Nimoy’s — because they both have the same scene together — he’s his Spock. They f******* nail it. They just nail it.”
At one stage, Paramount had two scripts for two very different “Star Trek” movies in development – the Tarantino take, and another, which would’ve seen Pine’s Captain Kirk reunite with his late father, George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth). That one has hit a few snags, culminating in Pine walking from the project over budgetary concerns.
