Cue the dancing baby!
Calista Flockhart is said to be in talks for an “Ally McBeal” revival with Fox and original series creator David E.Kelley – who is involved, but not in a writing capacity. A “female auteur” would like take the showrunner reins, as Kelley hinted previously.
“I’d be open to the idea of Ally McBeal being done again, but I don’t think it should be done by me. If it were going to be done, it really should be done by a woman,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2018. “If it’s going to be new, it should be new and different. And I did it: 100 hours.”
Deadline says the idea of bringing back the pop culture phenomenon of the late ’90s has been “bouncing around” for a while now.
The cast of the series also included Courtney Thorne-Smith, Greg Germann, Lisa Nicole Carson, Jane Krakowski, Peter MacNicol, Gil Bellows, Portia de Rossi, Lucy Liu, Robert Downey Jr, and Jesse L. Martin.
Deadline suggests that Hulu might make for a logical destination for the series considering it falls under the same Disney umbrella as the production studio, Fox TV. All five seasons of the show are also available on Hulu.
