Captain Marvel 2 loses director, nabs writer, retains star

They’re playing musical chairs over on another Marvel production.

Hmmm…Must be a Thursday.

Hot on the heels of Scott Derrickson’s “Doctor Strange” exit, Marvel have reportedly parted ways with “Captain Marvel 2” directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.

The duo, who helmed the original 2019 hit, were in talks to helm the sequel but have pulled out of talks. Seems there’s no Terrence Howard/Hugo Weaving/Patty Jenkins situation here though, with the twosome and Marvel still planning to work together- it’s mentioned they’re onboard to possibly helm a Disney+ series for the shingle.

Marvel plans to land a female director for the sequel, which is due 2022.

The “Captain Marvel” sequel, which will be set in the modern-day (as opposed to the ’90s), will be written by Megan McDonnaell, one of the staff writers on the upcoming Disney+ series “WandaVision”.

The first film featured five listed writers – Nicole Perlman, Meg LeFauve, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Boden and Fleck – so a lone writer might even make for a better movie (not that “Captain Marvel” was a misfire, it was actually real good – – great in fact).

Brie Larson, currently onscreens sans superhero-garb for “Just Mercy”,  will reprise her role as Carol Danvers in the film.
