Cast of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio announced

Guillmero Del Toro’s stop-motion “Pinocchio” is a star-studded affair, with Netflix announcing a slew of famous faces joining the cast.

Joining the already announced Ewan McGregor (voicing Pinocchio’s conscience, Jiminy Cricket) is Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Cate Blanchett, Finn Wolfhard, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, David Bradley, Burn Gorman, and newcomer Gregory Mann. What a cast!

Mann will be playing the lead role of Pinocchio, with Swinton playing the Turquoise Fairy and David Bradley the puppet maker and Pinocchio’s father, Geppetto. Perlman will be portraying Mangiafuoco, one of Pinocchio’s tormentors, with Christoph Waltz playing The Fox, another of the poor put-upon puppet’s antagonists.

Set during the rise of Fascism in Mussolini’s Italy, “Pinocchio” — a musical directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson with a score by Alexandre Desplat — is a story of love and disobedience as Pinocchio struggles to live up to his father’s expectations.

Of course this film is a different version to the live-action version to be directed by Robert Zemeckis, which has Tom Hanks in talks to play Geppetto.
