Casting: Mirren, Washington, Moore, Death Wish, Life of the Party

Helen Mirren is in negotiations to join Disney’s adaptation of “The Nutcracker”.

Should the deal come off, Mirren would play a character named Mother Ginger (via THR).

Mackenzie Foy will star in the film with Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman and ballerina Misty Copeland also attached.

Based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”, the live-action film is titled “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” and will be directed by Lasse Hallström from Ashleigh Powell’s script.

Mark Gordon is producing with Lindy Goldstein executive producing.

 

 

Denzel Washington is circling the lead role in writer/director Dan Gilroy’s legal drama “Inner City”, which is being described as a character study in the vein of Paul Newman’s 1982 classic “The Verdict”.

According to Variety, Washington would play a lawyer dealing with a major change at his company.

Jennifer Fox is producing “Inner City.”

 

 

Demi Moore has been cast in Sony’s R-rated comedy “Rock That Body” opposite Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and Zoe Kravitz, reports Deadline.

The film follows five friends who hire a beach house in Miami for a wild bachelorette weekend that goes completely off the rails.

Lucia Aniello is directing the movie from a script she penned with Paul W. Downs. Downs is also in the cast.

“Rock That Body” will be released on June 23, 2017.

 

 

Vincent D’Onofrio and Dean Norris have joined the cast of Paramount and MGM’s “Death Wish” remake, which has Bruce Willis on board to star.

Eli Roth is directing the film which follows Willis’ Paul Kersey whose life is destroyed by a violent crime against his wife and daughter. Frustrated the bad guys were not brought to justice for the violence and degradation the thugs inflicted on his family, he starts hunting for the perpetrators himself (via Deadline).

D’Onofrio will play Willis’ brother while Norris is on board as Detective Rains.

 

 

“Veep” star Matt Walsh is set to play Melissa McCarthy’s on-screen husband in 2018 comedy “Life of the Party”, reports Variety.

Gillian Jacobs, Jackie Weaver, Debby Ryan and Maya Rudolph co-star in the movie which has a screenplay by McCarthy and Ben Falcone. Falcone will also direct.

“Life of the Party” will open on May 11, 2018.
