Casting: Shannon, Weisz, The Defenders, Jared Harris, Sandra Oh, Nashville

Michael Shannon will play George Westinghouse opposite Benedict Cumberbatch as Thomas Edison in The Weinstein Company’s “The Current War” (via Deadline).

The film centres on Westinghouse and Edison’s battle over the supply of electricity in the late 1880s.

Alfonso Gomez-Rejon is directing from a script by Michael Mitnick.

The casting of Shannon follows reports that Jake Gyllenhaal was in talks to play Westinghouse, however nothing further was ever reported.

 

 

Rachel Weisz is set to star and produce an adaptation of Naomi Alderman’s novel “Disobedience”.

According to Variety, the story follows young woman who returns to her Orthodox Jewish home after learning about the death of her estranged father. She causes an upheaval in the quiet community when she rekindles a repressed love with her best friend – a woman now married to her cousin.

Sebastian Lelio is directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Rebecca Lenkiewicz.

 

 

Simone Missick has revealed she will appear in Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series “The Defenders”.

Missick, who plays cop Misty Knight in “Luke Cage”, revealed the news to TheWrap.

“I believe I’m safe to say that I will be on ‘The Defenders,’” she said. “Spoiler alert! If I lose my job because of this interview, sorry! I was supposed to be on ‘The Defenders,’ until I got fired.”

She will join her “Luke Cage” co-star Mike Colter on “The Defenders” alongside Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Finn Jones as Iron Fist.

 

 

Jared Harris will star in AMC’s new anthology drama series “The Terror”, an adaption of the bestselling novel by Dan Simmons.

The cast also includes Ciaran Hinds, Paul Ready, Adam Nagaitis, and Tobias Menzies.

“The Terror” is set in 1847, when a Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage is attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crew in a suspenseful and desperate game of survival.

Jared Harris will play Francis Crozier, Captain of the HMS Terror and second in command of the expedition. He is a brilliant sailor and captain, but an Irishman who has reached his glass ceiling in the British Royal Navy and has become disillusioned with its pomp and politics.

Ten one-hour episodes will then premiere in 2017.

 

 

“Grey’s Anatomy” alum Sandra Oh will guest star on Season 3 of “American Crime”.

Oh will play Abby Tanaka, a social worker who runs a shelter for victims of domestic abuse in Alamance County, N.C.

Set to premiere in 2017, the anthology series is exec produced by John Ridley and Michael J. McDonald.

 

 

The fifth season of “Nashville” has added Cameron Scoggins and Joseph David-Jones in recurring roles.

David-Jones will play Clay, a young, self-aware, and highly motivated man in his mid-20s who is destined for great things.

Scoggins will play Zach Welles, a young Silicon Valley billionaire.

Marshall Herskovitz, Ed Zwick, Steve Buchanan, and Callie Khouri exec produce “Nashvilles”, which will return for season 5 on January 5.
