Cate Shortland suggests Black Widow 2 could be on the way

“I think these girls have got a lot of a***s still to kick”, the Australian filmmaker says

"Black Widow"

Without delving too deep into spoiler territory, “Black Widow” is set well before the events of “Avengers : Endgame” so there’s essentially plenty of wiggle room as far as having Scarlett Johansson’s title character appear in a follow-up.

“Black Widow” director Cate Shortland would seem to agree, telling Deadline there’s definitely the possibility a sequel.

“I think these girls have got a lot of a***s still to kick”, the Australian filmmaker says, referring to Johansson and Florence Pugh’s characters.

Of course, a “Black Widow” sequel doesn’t necessarily even have to fix on Johansson’s Natasha Romanov. In a separate interview, Shortland told Radio Times that we’d be “following a different character” if a sequel came to fruition.

The most likely candidate to headline “Black Widow 2” would be Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, whose character is already spinning-off into the series “Hawkeye” and is rumored to be a fixture of some other future MCU ventures.
