Like dystopian futures and fantasy worlds, modern remakes on classic fairytales are all the rage in Hollywood these days, which is why Brothers Grimm tale “Bremen Town Musicians” is set to make its way to the silver screen, according to THR.
Lawrence Guterman (director of “Cats and Dogs) is teaming up with producer D. Matt Geller to develop the film in conjunction with Luxor Entertainment.
“Bremen Town Musicians” is a popular folk tale in Eastern Europe and features a cat, a dog, a donkey and a rooster who find themselves thrown out onto the streets after being declared past their prime as farm animals. The foursome decide to make their way to a town called Bremen and become musicians, but along the way they discover a house taken over by thieves and of course, adventure ensues.
Guterman has written the script, which apparently has the story as a comic romance set in 1713, with the King of Bremen demanding that his incompetent wizard search across space and time to procure the greatest ever musical troupe to perform at his daughter’s wedding. The rest of the story, however, is being kept tightly under wraps.
Songwriter-producer Steve Jordan and composer Lance Horn have signed on to work on the feature, which is currently in the visual development/animatics stage.
