CinemaCon : Lionsgate round-up! John Wick 4, Hunger Games, Dirty Dancing 2 and more!

Yes, “Dirty Dancing 2”.

Hosted by Sebastian Maniscalco and with an appearance by Robert De Niro, attending his first CinemaCon presentation, Lionsgate rolled out their big guns today for their spruik-fest of upcoming titles. On hand were Keanu Reeves, Chad Stahelski, Kim Cattrall, Sebastian Maniscalco, Leslie Bibb, Laura Terruso, Rachel McAdams, Abby Ryder Fortson, Kelly Fremon Craig and Julie Ansell.

John Wick Chapter 4 : A teaser for the film premiered at CinemaCon in Vegas, prompting much cheers from the audience.
Says Variety :

In the footage screened, Wick is on his perpetual revenge tour — this time taking on a decidedly lone ninja vibe — seen punching a wooden post to the point of his knuckles bleeding as co-star Laurence Fishburne acts as his hype man.

“I want you to find peace, John,” an off-screen voice booms as a montage plays of Reeves slaying his enemies, “but the only path this leads to is death.”

In the heart-pounding final moments of the trailer, Reeves takes on two baddies in the lobby of an art gallery — brutalizing them with nunchucks in a relentless, face-busting, merry-go-round motion.

Hunger Games : The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes : The ‘prequel’ to the Jennifer Lawrence movies has a release date : November 17, 2023.
Says Detroit Free Press :

The stylish visual featured shots of ice melting off tree branches as two golden creatures were revealed. “In 2023,” a text scroll read, “the world will discover who is a songbird and who is a snake.”

The clip ended with the film’s title, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” along with a release date of Nov. 17, 2023.

The Expendables 4 : The next film in the instalment will be titled “The Expend4bles” and star Sly, Jason Statham and Megan Fox, among others.

Says Detroit Free Press :

In the explosive new footage, Fox tackles Jason Statham over a couch, shattering glass and wrestling the macho Brit across a living-room floor. Later, she cocks a gun and walks in step with her fellow “expendables,” a motley crew of elite mercenaries played by Sylvester Stallone, Andy Garcia, Dolph Lundgren and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, another newcomer to the series.

Others : Here’s a round-up of some of the other news that dropped from Lionsgate.

There was a sizzle reel that showed off footage from the ‘John Wick’ spin-off “Ballerina” starring Ana De Armas, “Borderlands” starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett, and “DD”, a sequel to “Dirty Dancing” starring OG star Jennifer Grey.

Piggybacking off the Expendables news, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret is finally getting a movie to call its own. Edge Of Seventeen director Kelly Fremon Craig will helm the film, and Rachel McAdams and Benny Safdie will star as Margaret’s parents. The very special story about a young girl and her menstruation will be upsetting misogynists around the country later this year.

“I hope there’s, above all, a feeling of togetherness and community and feeling, as women, like we’re all on the same team,” McAdams told The Hollywood Reporter. “That there’s nothing you can’t talk about with each other. And for men, too. Benny Safdie plays the dad in this and is just so warm, and he’s struggling with what it is to have a girl who’s changing before his very eyes.”

Speaking of teens, ‌Sebastian Maniscalco wrote a movie, About My Father, and it’s coming soon. Maniscalco will play himself opposite Robert De Niro, who plays his father. Uh, let’s just hope that Maniscalco doesn’t tell him that you can milk anything with nipples because De Niro’s just going to tell him that he has nipples. Leslie Bibb and Kim Cattrall will also be there, presumably trying to talk some sense into these two numbskulls. Men!
