A Conjuring 2 spinoff to focus on the Nun

With the successful release of “The Conjuring 2” under its belt, New Line is developing a spinoff focusing on the villain of the supernatural thriller, the demonic nun.

“The Conjuring 2” co-writer David Leslie Johnson will pen the script for the film, title “The Nun”, with James Wan and Peter Safran producing.

Interestingly, the nun character wasn’t part of “The Conjuring” franchise until 3 months prior to the release of the second installment. Wan, who helmed the film, had the idea for the character and the reshoot took place in March, starring Bonnie Aarons as the new antagonist.

“The Nun” becomes the second “Conjuring” spinoff, following 2014’s “Annabelle”. That film grossed over $256 million worldwide and has a sequel slated for next year.
