Coronavirus sets back Mission : Impossible 7

With the number of cases of Coronavirus in Italy biggening to a reported 219 cases, Paramount has oped to halt production of Paramount’s “Mission : Impossible 7” in the city of canals.

The Christopher McQuarrie-directed blockbuster was set to lens in Venice for three weeks from Feb 20 before moving on to other foreign locations. With borders closed throughout Europe, and concerned for the safety of the cast and crew, the Melrose bunch have opted to postpone their plans. It’s likely that they’ll either find a new locale altogether. Meantime, everyone is staying put in home countries under the producers can get a grasp on how serious the situation is and whether it’ll be possible for Tom Cruise to jump from hot air balloons off the Duomo di Milano in the near future.

Paramount issued the following statement, “Out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and efforts of the local Venetian government to halt public gatherings in response to the threat of coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three week shoot in Venice, the scheduled first leg of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7.   During this hiatus we want to be mindful of the concerns of the crew and are allowing them to return home until production starts.  We will continue to monitor this situation, and work alongside health and government officials as it evolves.”

Scripted and directed by McQuarrie, “MI:7” stars Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Tom Cruise, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Nicholas Hoult, Simon Pegg, Shea Whigham, Gregory Sanon and Henry Czerny, who reprises his role as Eugene Kittridfe from the original 1996 film.

“Mission : Impossible 7” is due for release July 23, 2021.
