Hanelle Culpepper will break new ground when she becomes the first woman to direct a pilot or debut episode of a “Star Trek” series for CBS All Access.
The TV vet, who has directed of “Star Trek Discovery”, as well as “The Flash”, “Gotham”, “Supergirl” and countless others, has been assigned to direct the first two episodes of the upcoming ‘Picard’ series starring Patrick Stewart. In addition to the series’, all 13 feature films in the “Star Trek” series have been helmed by males.
Meanwhile, Stewart’s “Star Trek : The Next Generation” co-star Jonathan Frakes has come aboard to direct some episodes, the actor and filmmaker tells The Writer’s Experience.
No stranger to directing Starfleet, Frakes has directed episodes of “Star Trek: Discovery”, “The Next Generation,” “Voyager,” “Deep Space Nine,” and two Trek movies.
The untitled ‘Picard’ series, which picks up with Jean-Luc Picard, as he enters a new chapter of his life, will air exclusively on CBS All Access in the United States with concurrent international distribution by CBS Studios International.
