Benedict Cumberbatch has now finalized his deal to play Doctor Strange in Marvel’s upcoming superhero jaunt of the same name.
Though announced for the role in October, there’s apparently been a lot of back-and-forward between parties in the lead-up to making the deal stick.
Cumberbatch – currently winning raves for his turn as Alan Turning in “The Imitation Game” – will collaborate with Scott Derrickson, the “Deliver us From Evil” director who is directing the 2016 release.
A number of other actors were considered for the role of the Sorcerer Supreme, including Joaquin Phoenix, but Cumerbatch’;s name was likely always hovering near the top of the list.
