Margot Robbie will produce and co-star in “Fools Day”, a New Line film based on the short film of the same name by Cody Blue Snider. In it, a fourth-grade class who plays an innocent April Fools prank on their teacher  accidentally kills her. Convinced they’ll go to prison if anyone finds out, they try to hide her body before a police officer arrives for their anti-drug lesson. Hunnam in deep end for downunder drama

Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”, “Pacific Rim”) will star in Apple’s “Shantaram”.  Based on Gregory David Roberts’ best-selling novel, it tells the story of Lin (Hunnam), a man on the run from an Australian prison looking to get lost in the teeming city of Bombay. Cut off from family and friends by distance and fate, he finds a new life in the slums, bars and underworld of India. Justin Kurzel will direct the first two episodes of the series.  [More…]

Babadook star for NZ drama

Essie Davis and Thomasin McKenzie are starring in “The Truth of Bunny King”, a New Zealand-lensed film that marks the debut of Gaysorn Thavat. Davis will play Bunny King, a mother of two with a sketchy past and a sharp tongue who works traffic intersections as a squeegee bandit. Bunny finds her frustrations difficult to contain, leading her to clash frequently with the public and police. Finding herself without her children or a home, she crashes at her sister’s where her stay is interrupted by a confrontation with her sibling’s partner, which leads Bunny to try and take her niece Tonyah (McKenzie) under her wing. Sam Raimi will produce a feature film of the Lucas Paulino and Ángel Torres directed horror short “Bedtime Story”. In the short, written by Paulino and Torres, two young brothers, who, after hearing their Mother’s haunting bedtime story, are terrorized when it comes to life. The producers are now out to writers.
