What’s happening!?
So, did the combination of a British Superman and consequently, new filming locale (guessing they’ll shot in Queen’s country) ”shake up” that Lois Lane female lead shortlist over on Superman : The Man of Steel? Sure as shit sounds like it.
Hollywood Insider has a follow up to their story from earlier in the week in which such names as McAdams, Hathaway and Stewart were mentioned in relation to the role-thought-to-be-Lois-Lane.
You’ll have read earlier that Variety’s now suggesting that three relative unknowns have been shortlisted for the unspecified role.
HI says they only assumed the role these actresses were vying for was Lois Lane – as most of us would have, I suppose. But it seems their claim was still on the money – these girls were in the mix at one point. They’ve also got a very good explanation as to why the bigger American actresses might no longer be in contention.
Firstly, they talked to rumoured contender Kristina Anapau (“Black Swan”) who essentially confirms that the previously rumoured actresses were/are her competition but that the studio keeps swaying between known and unknown actors for the particular part.
“I don’t know what I can tell you – you’re very warm…all of the names on your previous list were or are still in the running for this role last I heard. They’re swaying between big names and smaller names. I can’t tell you specifics of the role – I don’t know what I can say, sorry”
A contact at Warner Bros says that although they “haven’t read the script” they are aware that “Things are changing every day on that movie – things changed a lot when a British Superman was cast. What’s happening here is the filming location may be dictating the casting. Did you notice none of those girls you just mentioned are Americans?”.
That’s right. Good point. Could it mean that tax incentives and Cavill’s casting have persuaded Snyder and the studio to both do the film in the UK with a British or European actress?
Finally, seems – despite her reps denials – there was some truth to the Kristen Stewart rumors.
A source tells the site, “I don’t know if she tested, but they were interested in her at one point. It was common knowledge. I think the conversations went mute when Snow White was put on the table – you can’t be chasing two projects of that size at the same time.”
In short : It’s anyone’s guess who will get the nod to play… whoever this girl is in “Superman”.
